Vellum document as follows: "His Excellency Caleb Strong, Governor and Commander in Chief of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to William Rice, Gentleman, - Greeting - You being elected on the seventh day of May 1816 to be Captain of a Company in the fourth Regiment of Infantry in the second Brigade and fourth Division of the Militia of this Commonwealth........." Also signed by Caleb Strong and Signed Alden Bradford on May 30, 1816. On the back is stated that William Rice personally appeared on August 17, 1816 and took oaths. Contains seal. In good condition. STORED IN DRAWER #4 OF WOODEN CABINET.
