California became a state in September 1850 and Fordyce and his bride appear in the first census and are considered California pioneers.]]>
This photo was used in the second edition of Papers on the History of Worthington. Frank Feakes makes note of the planting of the elm (post Lafayette's visit) and suggests that Lafayette may have stood outside the gabled section of the Pierce Tavern which fronts on Buffington Hill Road.
