Hardcover Book 'Young America: Childhood in 19th century Art and Culture,' by Claire Perry, published by Yale University Press in association with the Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Center for Visual Arts, Stanford University on the occasion of the exhibition 'American ABC.' This book was presented to the Historical Society by Joel and Sara Upton to one day be used as a reference for 19th century school houses. The dedication reads: 'This book is a gift to the Worthington Historical Society to foster an interest in American education and school life in ........, during the nineteenth and early twentierth centuries. Our hope is that this book will help to inform new interest in the Capen Riverside schoolhouse.' The color plates depict life in early American schoolhouses.
