Description
Hotel Register for The Hilltop Farm. May 18, 1921 November 17, 1939. (Bessie Ames on Harvey Road - see '40 Worthington Houses' (2006a-010, Box 30b). Brown cloth book with embossed word 'Register' on cover. A list of names of various guests very pertinent to the early 20th century in Worthington. On back cover, at bottom, is mistakenly stuck one one-half cent stamp, red with image of Benjamin Franklin. Bessie Ames was the aunt of John Ames. She was a single woman. She came in early 1880s. At age 27 she rebuilt Hilltop after a fire. Ames family was large, from Rockport MA. John came with mail. John came in 1902, lived with her. Anna Jacobson was his first wife, from East Longmeadow. She had tuberculosis and came to take the fresh air. She married John in 1928 in Parsonage on Huntington Road. In 1932 John wanted to build a house for Anna with a lot of windows, twice as long as it is wide. The house is across the street, lived in now by Jason and Lynne Graves, gambrel roof. However, she died in 1933. Buried in Center Cemetery. Bessie died in June 23, 1956, buried in Center Cemetery. John then married Hilda who had 2 daughters.1944 sold to Barry. This information per Sean Reagan who is writing a history which see in the future.
