Legal - Referee in Bankruptcy Certificate, Walter L. Stevens The original certificate with seal was in a frame. Frame was removed and the original is now is Drawer #4 of the wooden cabinet on the mezzanine. A photocopy of this certificate is in Box 39 by this number. It reads: "United States of America, District court of the United States, District of Massachusetts. By virtue of Section Thirty-four of 'An Act to establish a uniform system of bankruptcy throughout the United States," approved July 1st, 1898, I, Elisha H. Brewster, Judge of saidCourt, reposing confidence in the ability and special fitness of Walter L. Stevens, of Northampton, in said district, do by these presents nominate, constitute and appoint the said Walter L. Stevens, Referee in Bankruptcy in and for the Counties of Berkshire, Franklin, Hampden and Hampshire, in the State of Massachusetts. Done at Boston, on this ninth day of March a.D. 1934." Signed by Elisha H. Brewster, United States District Judge and James S. Allen, Clerk of the District Court of the United States, and Frank H. Mason, Deputy Clerk.
