Description

Sepia postcard from sample book of Herbert Berniss Thrasher (1884-1927), photographer. Titled: ‘Town Hall, Worthington, Mass.‘ (#64).

Thrasher was the son of George M. and Hattie Lyman Thrasher. Guy Thrasher was his brother. The sample book was produced during the 1920s when H. B. Thrasher was living and working in Florida. The images are undated but are probably quite a bit earlier, ca. 1910-1915 or so.

Town Hall was built in 1855 in the Greek Revival style. This is pretty much the way it look for the first seventy-five years before the first WPA addition in the 1930s.

Town Hall before second addition. First addition was in 1930s (Workers Progess Administration Project) adding stage and room above. Black and white photograph taken from the North West in summertime. There is what appears to be an American Elm tree in the front of the building.
