Description
This one page brief account of Ernestine Perry was given to Bee Smith by Pat Pease who then gave it to the WHS. It reads: "Ernestine Perry - lives in Maryland with her son. In 1952 on a Washington School trip from the Huntington High School, because Ernestine was 'colored' the class was treated differently, such as: - couldn't walk on the same side of the street as white people; - some restaurants wouldn't let them in; - some theaters wouldn't let them in. It was a different experience for these students from rural New England" [who were not aware of such prejudice.] [Interestingly, the class stood by Ernestine and none of the students went to the places not available to Ernestine.
